Make every hour hoppy hour Written on February 27, 2009, by fangela fangula.
Amy Sedaris loves house bunnies, and you should too. Rabbits have boundless energy and tons of enthuaism. There is probably a cute, fun-loving bunny waiting, it the Boston metro area, to rock the world of every Bostonist, right now.
February is Adopt A Rescued Rabbit Month. For a number of reasons, many bunnies end up in shelters, especially in spring. But, they take about as much work as a puppy to start, and usually live about ten years. Children may lose interest in the family pet, leaving the burden of care upon the grown ups. Lagomorphs are social animals, and want to hang out with other household members for at least an hour a day.
For more information about bunnies as pets, visit the House Rabbit Society. Want to talk to some enthusiastic bunny owners to decide if this might be the right pet? Contact the House Rabbit Network or the House Rabbit Connection, both organizations focused in rescuing Massachusetts bunnies. Want to meet some bunnies in person? Consider visiting the MSPCA in Jamaica Plain, or any other local shelter. Browse bunnies up for adoption at Petfinder. Or, read The Rabbit Advocate, a blog by MSPCA behaviorist Mary Lempert dedicated to the trials and tribulations of life with a lagomorph.
Also, having a bunny will almost surely score readers a date with certain Bostonist illustrators.

Friday the 13th Written on February 13, 2009, by fangela fangula.
Edward Scissorhands and Serial Mom cut out “Friday 13.” Does Serial Mom look a bit menacing? Oh no! Be careful of black cats and the like tonight, folks.

Hot, Local Lassies and Dudes Await Ye on OK Cupid Written on January 23, 2009, by fangela fangula.
>Some MIT students created Ok Cupid, a free dating site for introverts, nerds, weirdos, overachievers, weirdos, creative types, and folks on the autistic spectrum, as well as their admirers. Many members of the Fang Friends entourage visit the site quite frequently, looking for some type of romantic, but not codependent, love. The crew has become frustrated, nay, disgruntled, as of late because of the lack of hot dates on Friday nights resulting from their usage frequent doting upon of the OKC moniker. Readers of Fang Friends could change all that, however. Consider signing up, okay?

Sugar shacks Written on January 16, 2009, by fangela fangula.
The actual maple sugaring season doesn’t begin till mid-February, but most area residents will need a few weeks after the politics high of the presidential inauguration before they can handle a sugar high anyhow. Highland Orchard in Sturbridge, MA and Parker’s Maple Barn in Mason, NH are two relatively nearby options. Just watch out for the nature surrounding the sugar shacks; nature can be a very lethal thing.

Downpour in Boston Written on December 12, 2008, by fangela fangula.
A torrential downpour in Boston this morning swept Swan Boats from the Boston Common into the Public Gardens. The rain amassed many feet, up to the bust of the George Washington statue in what had become the Public Swamp. All sorts of invasive species, including nutrias and tourists, followed in the wake of the cascading waters. The force of the waters sank several of the Swan Boats.
“We rescued the tourists last,” admitted a local official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity. “Considering the state of the worldwide economy, we doubted the city would lose much money if any of the out-of-towners drowned.”
“Also,” she added, “the nutrias were just cuter”
